Bird flu confirmed on farm in northeastern Nebraska; 1.7 million hens to be killed

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Deparment of Agriculture confirmed a case of bird flu at a farm in Dixon County on Wednesday.
Bird flu was found in a flock of over 1.7 million laying hens. This is the sixth confirmed case of the virus in Nebraska, according to the department.
The infected flock will be killed and disposed of properly, the department says.
A 6.2-mile control zone around the affected farm will also be established.
Producers in the area should keep an eye out for signs of bird flu and should notify NDA immediately of sick or dying poultry.
The first farm to report a case of bird flu was in Merrick County on March 16.
Bird flu has also been confirmed by the department in Butler, Holt and Scotts Bluff Counties.
Over a million broilers were killed and disposed of properly at two farms in Butler County.
