After boy’s birthday presents are stolen, Lincoln Police officers buy him new ones

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln Police officer helped a Fairbury boy celebrate his birthday by replacing his stolen presents.

Michelle Novak was in Lincoln with her family last week to celebrate their son Dean’s sixth birthday.

When the family returned to their motel on Friday, they left Dean’s presents locked in a toolbox in their truck.

Saturday morning, they went outside to find that their truck had been stolen.

As the Novaks were returning home, they saw their truck in a Walmart parking lot and called Lincoln Police.

Officer Urbanek and Officer Rutz retrieved the truck and returned it to the family.  But Dean’s presents were gone.

Later, Officer Urbanek called the family and told them that he felt bad for Dean and wanted to get him a birthday gift.

Officer Urbanek and Officer Rutz pooled their money together to purchase Dean some presents.  Sgt. Robinson provided the basketball.

On Monday, Officer Urbanek showed up at the family’s house and delivered new presents to Dean.

By the time he purchased & delivered the toys and then returned home, he was ending what was close to a 24-hour day.  “Officer Urbanek didn’t mention his kind actions to anyone, said Lincoln Police. “(he) did all this out of the kindness of his heart to help ensure a little boy’s birthday wasn’t completely ruined.”

“I just want to let everyone know how blessed we are to have this officer drive from Lincoln to Fairbury with no sleep to… bring my son some gifts,” Novak said.
