SAUNDERS COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) — The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a four-vehicle crash near Fremont that killed one woman and injured at least four others.

Authorities say it happened around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday near Fremont on Highway 77 between Highway 109 and the Platte River Bridge. The sheriff’s office says a 2020 Mazda was driving northbound on Hwy. 77 as a 2006 Kia Sorrento was going southbound on the road at the same time. Both cars drifted toward the center line and collided, causing another collision with two cars behind them as well.

The driver of the Mazda was life-flighted to a nearby hospital and later died from her injuries. Deputies say, the two occupants of the Kia Sorrento were also life-flighted and are still in critical condition as of early Monday morning.

The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office does not believe alcohol was involved in this crash and seatbelts were used.
