Husker hoops redshirt freshman Quaran McPherson suffers season-ending injury

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Husker hoops redshirt freshman will have to sit the season out after suffering a season-ending injury.

Guard Quaran McPherson was injured while training before returning to Nebraska for the fall semester.

McPherson’s left knee injury will require him to have surgery in the coming weeks.  He will then start his rehab.

Men’s basketball athletic trainer R.J. Pietig said McPherson’s recovery is expected to take between six and eight months after surgery.

“It is disappointing to see Quaran’s redshirt freshman year end this early,” head coach Fred Hoiberg said in a press release. “He had a very good summer and worked hard to put himself in position for playing time. Quaran came back from a similar injury back in high school to play at a high level, so he understands the rehab process ahead. Knowing the type of competitor he is, I think Quaran will do everything he can to get back healthy.”

Pietig anticipates McPherson will make a full recovery in time for the 2023-24 season.

The 6-foot-3 guard was redshirted last season.  He spent the season helping run the Huskers’ scout team in practice.

Before Nebraska, McPherson played at Link Year School in Branson, Missouri, where he averaged 19 points, four rebounds and four assists per game.
