Group urges Nebraskans with disabilities to report barriers to voting
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The November elections are right around the corner, but some people in Nebraska may be facing barriers preventing them from heading to the polls.
Nebraskans with disabilities may face a multitude of barriers, from the door not being wide enough to there not being a ramp.
Common Cause Nebraska said if there’s something keeping you from casting a vote, you should speak up and let a poll worker know.
“As an organization, Common Cause, we place volunteers in voting places on election day to be an advocate when there is none, to spot these issues when there are problems. Then to be able to raise that to officials and get those problems fixed,” Executive Director Gavin Geis said.
Geis said using a mail-in ballot is also an option for those with disabilities who struggle leaving their home.
He also suggested looking for free transportation options on election day, as companies and government agencies will be offering people free rides to and from the polls.
