LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man who was at Wilderness Park after hours led a deputy on a chase late Friday night, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said Monday that the 18-year-old man sped off when a deputy approached his vehicle around 9:50 p.m.

The deputy pursued the vehicle but was eventually called off near 14th Street and Saltillo Road for safety precautions.

Houchin said the deputy then went to the home where the car was registered to.

When the deputy arrived, he spoke with another man, who said that his son had taken the car.

Later on, the 18-year-old walked up to the house and admitted to the deputy that he drove off because he didn’t want to get a ticket, Houchin said.

He was then arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest and failure to signal.
