Nebraska man caught after high-speed chase near Grand Island, patrol says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A David City man tossed a bag of marijuana out of his car Wednesday during a pursuit near Grand Island, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

Around 7:15 a.m., a trooper tried pulling over a Chevrolet Equinox that was going over 100 mph on Interstate 80 southeast of Shelton.

The driver, 25-year-old James Speicher, continued east, passing other vehicles on the shoulder, according to the patrol.

Speicher eventually exited I-80 and drove north toward Grand Island before heading east on Highway 34.

The patrol says Speicher then threw a bag containing more than a pound of marijuana out of his vehicle.

Near the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 2, a trooper used stop sticks to bring Speicher’s vehicle to a halt.

He was then arrested on suspicion of willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.

Speicher was lodged in the Hall County Jail.
