It's something no family wants to hear. Keith Homolka will be missed by both loved ones and his community in Wilber.
Growing up 15 minutes west of Wilber on a small farm homesteaded by his grandparents, Keith Homolka was one of four children. His only sister, Kayla, remembers the way he brought a smile to everyone he met.
“Yesterday when I found out, the main thing that I had stuck in my head was his laugh. He had a very unique, contagious laugh. He was a very funny person, very kind and very giving,” said Kayla.
On Thursday morning, police say the car Homolka was driving swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting a semi-truck head-on. Police pronounced him dead at the scene. Homolka's family says he was on his way to see a doctor in Seward, complaining of feeling dizzy, but are unsure if that was the cause of the accident.
“We don't know if it was because of how he was feeling or that old raggedy car. THere was always something wrong with it. We don't know why he drove that to Lincoln because he had a better vehicle he could have used,” said Kayla.
His family says he loved to fix things, especially around the farm, and enjoyed working on cars, like the one he was driving. THey say he loved on thing above everything else, his 18-month-old daughter, Kassady Jayms.
“He loved that little girl so much, it's just amazing how much she has his facial features and she's a very happy baby,” said Kayla.
Police don't know much more as of now. THey say their accident reconstruction team is working on a report to send the County Attorney's Office. We wish the Homolka family the best during this tough time.
