Lincoln can weigh in on city’s plan to provide paid parental leave this Monday
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The public is getting its first chance to weigh in on Lincoln’s plan to offer paid parental leave.
The proposal would apply to city employees and it’s scheduled for a reading Monday night.
If approved, Lincoln would be the first city in Nebraska to make such an offer.
Officials told us while unveiling their plan last week that employees and families perform their best when they’re supported.
They also said it would help the city retain valuable employees, who may otherwise have to leave the workforce.
The current plan includes six weeks of paid leave for the birth, adoption or fostering of a child.
Leave may be taken at any time during the 12-month period following those events.
Employees would be paid their full wage for the duration of their parental leave.
Monday’s city council meeting gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
