Fire causes over $80,000 in damage to north Lincoln trailer home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fire at a north Lincoln trailer home on Wednesday caused over $80,000 in damage, officials say.

The fire started at the trailer home near First Street and Cornhusker Highway around 1:50 p.m.

When crews arrived, heavy fire was coming from the structure, according to Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Nancy Crist.

Due to strong winds, the blaze spread to a second trailer home, which was vacant.

No residents were home at the time of the fire, but a dog was found dead inside, Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said.

Fire Inspector Jason Relford said the cause of the fire was a discarded cigarette.

Crist said the home is considered a “total loss” with about $80,000 in damage to the structure and another $7,000 to its contents.
