Storms possible this week
It’s getting to be that time of year. We’re warming up and storms are starting to pop into our forecast. There’s a chance for strong to severe storms this week Tuesday evening and then again Wednesday. Some could linger into the end of the week with cooler temperatures headed our way.
Tuesday will be a very mild day with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. That’s 10 to 15 degrees above average!
With the heating of the day and a frontal boundary in place, storms will try to form during the evening hours. The above model shows them in our area after sunset.
Much of Nebraska has a Marginal Risk for strong to severe storms Tuesday evening. This means that one or two storms may become strong to severe with hail and damaging wind the most likely concerns.
Wednesday is a little more tricky and we’ll know more after the storms move out Tuesday. For now, models have a line of storms forming in SE Nebraska in the afternoon. Storms that do form will have a severe weather potential.
It’s possible that the line of storm shown in the model above may form further northwest, thus a Slight Risk is in place for much of SE Nebraska for the potential. We will be fine tuning the details and have more information on this come Tuesday!
