Mayor of Lincoln among passengers on LNK’s inaugural flight to Orlando

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Dozens at the Lincoln Airport boarded the inaugural Red Way Airlines flight to Orlando early Thursday morning.

Back in March, the Lincoln Airport announced its partnership with Red Way Airlines, which provides flights to seven new cities, including Orlando.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor-Baird, who was a passenger on the inaugural flight, said Lincoln’s economy benefits from the new airline.

“This really does open up opportunities for Lincoln,” she said. “It’s not just about where we can go but about who can get here, and this new air service with Red Way is creating new jobs.”

David Haring, executive director of the Lincoln Airport Authority, said the goal is to make travel more convenient for Lincolnites.

“When you announce these sorts of services you’re announcing one maybe two markets if you’re lucky,” he said. “To announce seven is astounding and we already know that there’s more on the horizon.”

With the new terminal opening, Haring said it’s up to the community to help continue the airport’s expansion.

“Even if it doesn’t work for a flight now, keep checking it because Red Way is really aggressive about making sure they want to stay in the community,” he said.

Later this month, nonstop flights will begin flying to Atlanta, Dallas, Austin and more.
