Nebraska regents approve Rodney Bennett as UNL chancellor

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted Thursday to approve Rodney D. Bennett as the next chancellor of UNL.

Bennett, who will begin his new role on July 1, is the first person of color to become chancellor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

He replaces Ronnie Green, who will retire at the end of June.

Bennett’s salary has been set at $720,000, which is almost $200,000 more than Green’s base salary.

In May, President Ted Carter selected Bennett, the former president of the University of Southern Mississippi, as a priority candidate.

Bennett then underwent a 30-day vetting period, which included public sessions with UNL faculty, staff and students.
