Lincoln Literacy showcases new space
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Literacy outgrew its old place and opened up a new one.
The organization, which teaches English to refugees and immigrants, held an open house Thursday for board members, city council members and the media.
The new location is at 1023 Lincoln Mall, across the street from the Hall of Justice.
With the large influx of immigrants and refugees, Lincoln Literacy has seen major growth over the past couple of years.
Last year, the organization served 37% more students, Director Bryan Seck said.
“We served 1,109 adults last year,” he said.
The new building doubles the organization’s space. It has four classrooms, instead of one, and it has more office space for its team to train.
The new place cost $1.9 million, and Lincoln Literacy still needs around $350,000.
It is asking people to contribute any amount to reach that goal.
Seck said the best way to donate is to visit the website.
