LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Grand Island man will spend six decades in prison for producing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 43-year-old Scott Simmons was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in prison for two child porn charges.

U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard also ordered Simmons to pay $11,250 in fines and another $9,000 to funds established for victims of child porn crimes.

Following an investigation, the FBI found that a series of child pornography images, which had been shared online, came from Simmons and Scott Meyer.

On Aug. 25, 2022, authorities searched their home and seized “numerous” electronic devices, the attorney’s office said.

Meyer, who was home at the time of the search, admitted to authorities that he and Simmons had produced child pornography.

In a search of their cell phones, authorities found more than 400 files of child pornography, according to the attorney’s office.

Back in 2007, Simmons was convicted of one count of third-degree sexual assault of a child in Saline County.

The attorney’s office said that Simmons and Meyer met while both serving sentences for child-sex offenses.

After serving his prison sentence, Simmons will spend the rest of his life on supervised release.  There is no parole in the federal system.

Meyer is set to be sentenced on Oct. 2 in the same case.
