A hot and muggy week ahead
THE HEAT & HUMIDITY RETURN
Despite the overnight and very early morning round of storms in eastern Nebraska, sunshine will dominate for most of our Monday. That means temperatures will heat up very quickly. We’re forecasting high temperatures in the middle-90s in Lincoln. A few spots may push 100°.
However, the air temperatures do not tell the whole story. We will have lots of humidity to work with, and that will make it feel warmer than the actual air temperature. We’re looking at heat indices near 90° by Noon and in the 100°+ territory by peak heating.
For that matter, the heat and humidity will stick around for much of this week. A Heat Advisory will go into effect on Monday afternoon and last through Thursday for all of southern Nebraska.
While we may not hit the traditional threshold to require a Heat Advisory each day, the cumulative effect of 100°+ heat indices warrants a longer-duration advisory spanning several days. This is because excessive heat effects are cumulative, with the threat of heat-related illness growing with each day of intense heat.
TUESDAY RAIN CHANCE?
While Monday looks mostly dry in eastern Nebraska, we may see some spotty shower activity in western Nebraska by late Monday afternoon and evening. This wave could bring some spotty showers to eastern Nebraska closer to Tuesday morning and early afternoon.
It isn’t a great rain chance, and it likely won’t produce all too much accumulation. The severe weather chance is slim to none as well. Nevertheless, it is something to watch. Perhaps it will provide some temporary relief from the heat on Tuesday.
