Slight storm chance mainly west; Turning up the heat
The rest of Tuesday will hold the potential for a few isolated storms to be seen across the state. Mainly, these storms should be seen through central and northeast Nebraska, as a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk is in place. This is not expected to be widespread, but with this type of storms possible, large hail and damaging winds are possible too.
These scattered storms, if any, are expected to weaken as they make it toward southeast Nebraska. A light shower around the area isn’t out of the question late tonight, but it is not expected.
Tonight will be another “saucy” one, with plenty of humidity still to go around. Temperatures will be dropping to the lower 70s, with winds shifting from the southeast to the northwest. Again, a small chance to see anything overnight.
Speaking of heat now for some time, we’ve known that Wednesday was going to be one of the hottest days of the week. Temperatures should make it into the upper 90s as long as skies remain mostly clear.
In terms of what it’ll actually feel like, our heat index Wednesday afternoon could be as high as 108° because of the humidity. Yuck.
In fact, the Heat Advisory has seen some changes. In northeast Nebraska, a few counties have been added to the advisory through Thursday evening. And now with models hinting at a very hot and soupy Friday, southeast Nebraska’s Heat Advisory goes through Friday evening.
Actual air temperatures will be flirting with 100° through Friday, with a cold front arriving and temperatures “cooler” by Saturday. Cooler as in just 5-10° cooler, but it’s something at this point.
