The unsettled stretch of weather continues
A few waves of storms were underway early Thursday, primarily in central and far southern Nebraska. These showers should become more spotty in nature as they continue to move toward eastern Nebraska. For that reason, we are only including a hit-or-miss shower chance in Lincoln on Thursday.
We’ll otherwise be cloudy with some areas of dense fog to start the day. The fog should burn off a few hours after sunrise, but the clouds will persist into the afternoon. Highs will be fairly similar to that of recent days, in the low to mid-80s around Lincoln.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of western Nebraska under a slight (Level 2/5) risk for severe weather, with an enhanced (Level 3/5) risk clipping southwest Nebraska. The severe weather threat is primarily in place for the evening storm potential. Damaging straight-line winds and large hail are the main concerns.
The storm activity will be fairly widespread in western Nebraska on Thursday night. Storms will move into the Panhandle by late afternoon, into southwest Nebraska sometime after 9 p.m., and into central Nebraska.
By the time storms arrive in Lincoln early Friday, they’ll be in a much-weakened state. Lincoln likely sees the remnant shower activity on Friday morning.
Spotty showers cannot be ruled out on Friday, but chances do appear small in southeast Nebraska during the day. However, a new wave nears on Friday night and there could be another round of storms after that on Saturday.
I’m specifically watching Saturday as there could be a severe weather chance in southeast Nebraska. There is a slight (Level 2/5) risk of severe weather that includes Lincoln for Saturday. There are still a few days for the finer details to change, but it’s worth checking back for future updates.
