Blessed Sacrament Catholic students help those in need at Matt Talbot

A simple lunch was teaching a big lesson to some Lincoln students Wednesday, as junior high school kids from Blessed Sacrament Catholic School served the meal to those in need at Matt Talbot.
“It makes me really just happy to see them getting to share their gifts but then also getting to make a relationship and learn from the people that their serving,” said Teacher Sara Racicot.
The kids served ham sandwiches, with soup and cookies, and learned that a day of giving back to the community can be really fulfilling.
“I’m like proud that I can do something to help this community to the people who aren’t as fortunate as me get food and help,” said 7th grader Isaac Hughes.
This program for Blessed Sacrament Catholic School has been going on for more than 20 years and has turned in to quite the tradition that many students have enjoyed.
“Feeling very grateful because I get to meet these new people and make their day happier,” said 8th grader Lora Mabok.
“I learned that everybody is the same and equal and everybody deserves food not matter what they’ve done, whatever their life situation is everybody deserves to be treated equal and have food,” added Isaac Hughes.
For Sara and the other teachers taking these kids to serve the people of Lincoln is very special.
“I love getting to see these guys do something their so good at and see how just gifted they are and see how you know junior high kids get a bad rep, and it’s cool to see them remember ok really good and we can do this,” said Racicot.
