The Lincoln Scottish Rite helped raise money for a local speech pathology clinic

Families from the Scottish Rite speech pathology clinic came out and enjoyed the nice weather on Saturday morning at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo.

“Just a good time to really say hey I’ve worked hard this year and I’m doing really great with my speech goals and my communication goals, and hey look these other kids were that and doing the exact same thing I’m not by myself,” Holly Schalutman a Speech Pathologist with the Scottish Rite said.

The Scottish Rite is a national group, and they have been established here in Lincoln since 1867.

They built the local speech pathology clinic to helped kids of all ages, at no cost to the families since 1976.

“We know that if kids can get speech therapy early they go on to be life long learners they need less remedial education and social services. We know for every dollar we spend now we save 10 dollars down the road in social services,” Micah Evans of the Scottish Rite said.

Over the years the Scottish Rite has raised more than $700,000 towards speech therapy.

This is just one of the 3 other speech clinics throughout the state of Nebraska and results these kids experience are life-changing.

“It’s so exciting that when they get to do a new sound or when they get to say a new word or use their devices to say a cool sentence or say their name, it just makes all the world of difference to families they love coming and the kids love coming in and working on their communication by playing to at the same time,” Schalutman said.
