Lincoln gun store sees rise in business as permitless concealed carry law goes into effect

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – DEGuns Firearms has seen an influx in customers and an increase in questions about permitless concealed carry as it went into affect on Saturday.
The bill covers not just handguns, but also other weapons like knives and brass knuckles.
Nebraskans 21 and older now will not have to take a safety course to carry a concealed handgun, which was previously required.
Individuals buying a gun will not have to pass a more in depth background check, either. However, gun safety classes are still available across the state – something police, supporters and opponents all recommend taking.
“People have been coming in for quite some time since the bill passed”, said David Pringle, a manager at DEguns.
Since the legislative session ended a few days earlier than originally planned, the law is going into effect sooner.
The gun store says they typically see increases in curious customers after changes are made with gun laws, and they anticipate even more customers resulting from this bill.
“We’re really just expecting people to be more enthusiastic about buying guns and carrying them for their own personal safety,” he said.
Pringle also said the people he has met and informed about the bill have been receptive to it.
It is still necessary to have a purchase permit from a sheriff’s office or chief law enforcement officer to purchase a handgun in the state.
