‘From mild to wild’: Sports car championships in Lincoln have all types of vehicles
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Speed and agility is the name of the game at the Sports Car Club of America solo nationals at Air Park this week.
This is the event’s 50th year and its 14th straight year in Lincoln.
About 1,500 drivers from across the country will race during the event, which started on Tuesday.
The club welcomes all types of cars and drivers.
Some people race sports cars or race cars, and some have everyday vehicles.
Mike Cobb, president and CEO of the SCCA, said if you come to the event, you’ll see cars from a Formula Ford race car to one of the first cars that ever competed in the solo nationals.
You’ll even see a Honda Fit out there on the tracks.
“From mild to wild,” Cobb said. “That’s why we are the home for amateur motorsports in North America,” Cobb said.
The event is free to the public and runs through Friday.
Even if you don’t come for the races, you can still walk around and look at the cars.
“We’ve got bleachers out here for everybody,” Cobb said. “You can go up and you can see all the close cars up close and personal.”
The competitions typically run from around 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
To get into the event, drive to the entrance gate near Northwest 36th and Mathis streets and follow the signs until you get to the welcome tent.
