LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Omaha man will spend over seven years behind bars for robbing a pair of banks in 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.

Traynell Toney, 30, was sentenced Wednesday to seven years and six months in prison for robbing two banks in Omaha.

U.S. District Judge Brian Buescher also ordered Toney to pay a $13,485 fine.

On Dec. 20, 2021, Toney went into the First National Bank inside Hy-Vee near 52nd and Walnut streets.

The attorney’s office said Toney slid a note to the teller demanding money.  He also wrote that he would kill the teller if they didn’t comply.

Toney left the bank with $3,312, according to the attorney’s office.

On Dec. 31, 2021, Toney walked into a U.S. Bank inside Baker’s near 175th Street and West Center Road.

Once again, Toney handed the teller a note demanding money, and he walked out with $10,173, the attorney’s office said.

Investigators connected the robberies to Toney after they found his fingerprints on one of the demand notes.

After his release from prison, Toney will serve a three-year term of supervised release.  There is no parole in the federal system.
