LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Nebraska middle school student is accused of threatening a classmate with a knife while on campus.

That’s according to the Grand Island Police Department, which said this happened at Walnut Middle School on Friday.

A spokesperson for Grand Island Public Schools told Channel 8 that all of the students and staff remained safe and that classes were not interrupted.

The school resource officer and administrative team immediately intervened to de-escalate the situation, the district said.

GIPD said the investigation is ongoing, and GIPS said it has a strict policy on violent behavior.

“Incidents of this manner will result in automatic suspension and could end with additional consequences,” the district said.

GIPS is not providing any additional details at this time to protect the privacy of its students.
