Man fled from three traffic stops in Grand Island before truck died, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man is accused of speeding away from Nebraska authorities three times before his truck finally gave out.
This all began on Tuesday just before 10 p.m., according to the Grand Island Police Department.
Officers said they tried to pull over Jose Martinez near Stolley Park Road and South Locust Street, but he sped off, going 55 mph in a 35-mph zone.
Another officer spotted Martinez at 11th and Sycamore streets a little after 11 p.m., but he’s accused of speeding away again.
About a half-hour later, officers say they caught up with Martinez a third time. They were able to take out two tires with stop sticks near Capital Avenue and St. Paul Road.
Martinez kept going, according to officers, but his truck died when he drove into the yard at Lincoln Elementary School.
They said he tried tucking his hands under his body to prevent officers from handcuffing him, even after getting shocked with a stun gun, but he was eventually arrested.
He’s facing a long list of charges, including reckless driving, resisting arrest and three counts of flight to avoid arrest.
