Security guard cited after pepper spraying two at downtown Lincoln bar, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A security guard is accused of third-degree assault after pepper spraying two people Saturday at a downtown Lincoln bar.

Around 11 p.m., a man and a woman were denied entry to Barry’s near Ninth and Q streets due to their “level of intoxication,” police said.

The man told the bouncer he needed to get in to find his wallet, which he lost the night before.

The couple was denied again, and the man made a “derogatory” comment toward a security guard, according to police.

In response, the security guard pepper-sprayed the couple.  He also pushed the female to the sidewalk, police said.

The security guard, a 25-year-old man, was cited on suspicion of two counts of third-degree assault.

The woman was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
