Quiet start, before stormy end this week

This week will start off cool and quiet. Temperatures will be in the 60s with plenty of sunshine expected on Monday. We have high pressure building in, so mostly clear skies should be the case for both Monday and into most of Tuesday.

Week Ahead

Changes to this quiet forecast come by late Tuesday into early Wednesday. We’ll be watching for a strong low to develop to our southwest (near the Colorado-Kansas border). From that system, we should experience the warm front closing in by early Wednesday, with some rain possible through southeast Nebraska with that.

Wed Early

As this system moves from the Rockies into the Plains, we could see some stronger storms near and just behind the warm front by Wednesday evening. The track of this low isn’t quite certain yet, as many models still showing various solutions. More of these details will become clear as we get closer to Wednesday.

Wed Night

With the thunderstorms that are able to develop Wednesday evening into the night, some may be strong with hail and wind possible. This far out, the Storm Prediction Center is already highlighting most of southeast Nebraska for a Marginal risk of severe storms.

Marg Wed

This same system will be strengthening by Thursday, draping the cold front behind it for more storms Thursday evening and night. Some of these storms could be strong, too. Models also hinting at some possible snow/mix out in far northwest Nebraska. Gross.

Thurs Evening

Comparing a couple long-range models for rain through this period, it looks like we may be in for a good shot at decent amounts. Anywhere from 0.5-1.5″ appears to be reasonable for Wednesday through Friday.

Model Comparison

So, expect seasonable temperatures through the beginning of this week before a stormy end.
