Lincoln’s Center for People holds ribbon-cutting at remodeled building
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Center for People, formerly known as the Center for People in Need, took another step in its new direction on Thursday.
The nonprofit cut the ribbon on its revamped building near 27th and Superior streets.
The building now emphasizes the center’s education services.
It has a welding shop and virtual reality booths where people can learn how to do electrical work. They can even get certified.

And even more changes are “in the works,” Executive Director Macala Carter said.
Now, when people come to get food, the operation looks like a warehouse.
But the center plans to make it more like a grocery store.
There will also be a portable kitchen, where people can see how foods are prepared.
“We’re going to be able to livestream for individuals that can watch it from home,” Carter said. “They can refer back to it in our library of all of our videos, or you can be shopping with us and be able to see how we’re preparing the food.”
The center is also building a greenhouse for community members to grow produce and learn about gardening.
The work is expected to be done next year.
