Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office raises money for Waverly school during No Shave November

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is raising money for a boarding school in Waverly during No Shave November.

Deputies and civilian staff can donate $50 a month to participate in the program, which goes until the end of December.

A donation means that female deputies can wear a non-uniform hat, civilian staff can wear casual clothing and male deputies can disregard the clean-shaven policy.

This year, the sheriff’s office is raising money for Villa Marie, a boarding and day school for children with special needs.

Jennifer Chase, the school’s executive director of development and advancement, said most families can’t afford to enroll.

Many families pay a reduced tuition, with donations providing the rest of the funding.

“Without those donations, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do at Villa Marie,” Chase said.

The school is currently at capacity, but Chase said they want to open it up for more students.

“When they come here, we are like a big family,” she said.  “They are received by the other kids with open arms and suddenly they have a whole friend group of friends.”

So far, the sheriff’s office has raised $3,000 for the Villa Marie School.
