Health Officials Warn Parents Against Toddler Fruit Purée Pouches

Parents are being warned against feeding their children WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée Pouches as part of an investigation into elevated lead levels. (RIDOH)

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Douglas County Health Department is cautioning against specific applesauce pouch brands after a report that the products contain high levels of lead.

The products are being recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

And while no cases have been reported in Nebraska, 34 babies across 14 states have been affected.

These products include:

  • WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree.
  • Schnucks cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches and variety pack.
  • Weis cinnamon applesauce pouches.

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said these products may contain elevated levels of lead.

Officials advise that if your child has eaten any of these products, you should have them screened for lead poisoning.
