LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Fort Calhoun man will spend six months behind bars for posting a false school threat on a messaging app.

Nathan Bonacci, 21, was sentenced Wednesday to prison for impeding or interfering with a federal officer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

On Feb. 10, 2022, Bonacci made a post on Discord, an online messaging app.

In the post, Bonacci said he planned to drive to an elementary school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and “kill as many people” as he could find, the attorney’s office said.

Authorities were later notified of the post, and the FBI assigned a special agent to investigate the potential threat.

The FBI agent identified the user’s IP address, which led him to Bonacci, who admitted to making the post.

The attorney’s office said Bonacci posted the threat because “he thought his friends would find it funny.”

The false threat “impeded” the special agent from accomplishing other assigned duties, according to the attorney’s office.

After his release from prison, Bonacci will serve a one-year term of supervised release.  There is no parole in the federal system.
