Man stole phone after punching Lincoln gas station clerk ’20 times,’ court docs say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man is accused of assaulting a Lincoln gas station clerk and stealing his phone on Wednesday.
Around 10:15 p.m., 31-year-old Khalil Ross entered the U-Stop near 13th and South streets and asked to use the phone.
Ross went to the back of the store and started drinking a beer out of the fridge, according to an arrest affidavit.
An employee confronted Ross, who then started attacking him, court documents say.
The clerk was punched about “20 times and kneed once in the head,” the affidavit alleges.
Ross left the store with the employee’s phone, which investigators tracked to Bryan West.
Around the same time, Bryan West security called in on a “suspicious male,” according to the affidavit.
Officers found Ross and took him into custody. The clerk’s phone was found in a nearby stairwell.
Ross was charged Thursday with robbery.
A Lancaster County judge set Ross’ bond at $100,000. He must pay $10,000 to be released from jail.
The Lincoln Police Department said the clerk was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.
