LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The University of Nebraska Board of Regents on Friday unanimously selected a temporary replacement for President Ted Carter.

Chris Kabourek, the university’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, will assume the role on Jan. 1.

Carter’s last day is Dec. 31.  He is leaving to become president of Ohio State University.

“Chris loves Nebraska, he loves the University of Nebraska and he has told us he will do whatever he can to help the institution,” board chairman Tim Clare said in a press release.  “That’s the kind of leadership and commitment we need as we move forward with our plans to take the University of Nebraska to a new level of excellence.”

The board is still searching for the university system’s ninth president.  Kabourek will be the interim president until a permanent successor is named.

Officials said Kabourek has agreed to not be a candidate for the permanent position.
