Very mild into Christmas; storms possible then rain/snow across Nebraska
Dense fog will be an issue for commuters again Friday morning. A Dense Fog Advisory for most of eastern Nebraska includes Lincoln this time around. Visibilities could drop to a mile or less through counties shaded in gray below through 11 a.m. Friday.
Fog is expected to linger through the first half of the day, but once it clears to the east, we should get more sun this afternoon!
It’s been a very mild start to the day, with temperatures not expected to drop below 40 degrees this morning. Wild to say that in the last days of December, but we’ve been so warm lately. Especially compared to a year ago today, when highs never got above zero!
The warm up leading into Christmas Eve is quite impressive. High temperatures will be in the upper 50s for both Saturday and Sunday, with rain expected to start late Saturday into Sunday.
Some weak thunderstorms will be possible early Sunday through central and eastern Nebraska, with widespread rain. Precipitation will continue to fall as rain for what we do see through Christmas Eve. However, latest trends bring colder air in quicker on Christmas Day. We may be looking at rain transitioning to a rain-snow mix earlier in the day, rather than the second half of the day as models were once suggesting.
The transition to this mix earlier could result in some accumulating snow in central/eastern Nebraska. Latest model trends have not come into agreement on all of this, so we will still be looking into these details leading up to Christmas Day. Pay attention to the forecast as we continue to provide updates as you make travel plans.
