Family of fallen Nebraska State Patrol trooper receives special gift

Nebraska State Patrol Trooper George Amos was killed in the line of duty in April of 1973 at the age of 28.
He left behind a wife and two sons.
More than four decades later, a Nebraska family was cleaning out their home and stumbled upon a piece of Amos’ past: a traffic citation he’d written just a year before his death.
The family contacted the Nebraska State Patrol, who knew exactly what to do with the memento.
They contacted Amos’ family and presented it to them in a special unveiling Thursday at the state capitol.
The family traveled all the way from Texas for the thoughtful gesture, and says they never stop thinking about the troopers who now do what their father did all those years ago.
“Man, we just pray for the protection of the officers today and we hope that nobody else has to go through what we went through so many years ago,” Mike Amos said.
The Nebraska State Patrol already honors Amos in another way.
One of their K-9 units bears his namesake: Amos.
The lieutenant governor was also present for the ceremony.
