Sirens at Cooper Nuclear Station a false alarm, officials say

Officials said a a problem with an alert system near the Cooper Nuclear Station caused several of the systems sirens to sound Tuesday.

The sirens went off at approximately 8:16 a.m.

According to Nebraska Public Power District officials, this was a false system activation that set off several sirens near the plant.

Officials said there was no problem at the plant that would have required activation of the sirens, and at no time was there a threat to residents of the area around Cooper.

The cause of the false activation is under investigation.
