Mother, son escape from Waverly home after it bursts into flames

WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) — Two people escaped Monday after a fire broke out at a house in Waverly.

The call came in around 4:15 a.m. near 149th and Castlewood streets, according to Chief Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Houchin.

Several units from several are fire departments responded, Houchin said.

The home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived, he said.

A 53-year-old woman and her 24-year-old son got out of the house unharmed, according to authorities.

The home — valued at $350,000 — is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
