LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Seven Lincoln neighborhood parks will be getting upgrades next year.

In a press release Tuesday, Lincoln Parks and Recreation announced it will receive a $600,000 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The grant will be used to renovate Peach, Nevin, Stuhr, Henry, Belmont, Filbert and Herbert parks.

“As we advance our goal to grow the great life in Lincoln, these funds will result in major improvements for families and children of all abilities across our community,” said Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird in the release.

Lincoln Parks and Rec is set to receive the grant in the summer.  The renovations are scheduled to begin in 2025.

City officials said renovations include the removal of old playground equipment, installation of new concrete and ADA improvements.

The renovation’s total cost is estimated at $1.2 million.  The city is matching the grant with its Capital Improvement Program budget.

“Land and Water Conservation Fund grants are a critical tool for making park improvements that will give our residents more opportunities to experience and appreciate the great outdoors, said Maggie Stuckey-Ross, parks and rec director, in the release.  “Our parks encourage healthier and more active lifestyles for our youth and create a healthier environment with improved air and water quality.”
