LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Omaha Supernovas head coach Shelton Collier is moving to a new role weeks after the team’s inaugural season launched.

The team announced Tuesday that Collier will now serve as an adviser to the organization.  He served as head coach for two games.

Assistant Laura Kuhn will take over as the interim head coach, officials said.

Kuhn previously served as head coach of Texas A&M’s volleyball team from 2018 to 2022.  She was named the 2019 SEC coach of the year.

Jazz Schmidt, a former Creighton volleyball standout, is also joining the team’s coaching staff.

“With the Supernovas off to a tremendous start, we need to expand our operations in preparations for our immediate future needs, Supernovas President Diane Mendenhall said in a press release.  “We are fortunate to have Coach Collier’s experience in moving into this role as Advisor to the Organization.”

In his new role, Collier will evaluate players throughout the nation as Omaha prepares for free agency and the draft, officials said.

“I am appreciative of the opportunity to have been the head coach for the Supernovas,” Collier said in the release.  “I am proud of the talented roster we assembled and am very proud of the teams’ development and performance.”

Before arriving in Omaha, Collier served as head coach at Wingate University for 21 years.  He finished his time in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a 553-90 record.

Collier also spent time coaching at Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech and served as an assistant coach for USA Volleyball.
