Nebraska Pro Volleyball names Shelton Collier as head coach

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska Pro Volleyball announced Tuesday that Shelton Collier will serve as the team’s head coach.

Collier, a 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, will lead the Omaha-based team, which is part of the Pro Volleyball Federation.

Most recently, Collier served as head coach at Wingate University for 21 years.  He finished his time in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a 553-90 record.

Collier also spent time coaching at Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.  He also served as an assistant coach for USA Volleyball.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to coach in Omaha, the premier volleyball market in the country,” Collier said in a press release. “It is especially exciting for our players to have a passionate fan base and unique resources that will allow our players to have an exceptional experience here.” 

The Pro Volleyball Federation is expected to launch its first season in January.

So far, six teams have been announced: Omaha, Atlanta, San Diego, Orlando, Grand Rapids and Columbus.
