Very warm leading into Valentine’s Day
Continuing one of the mildest February’s on record, Tuesday has temperatures starting about 10-20 degrees above average for morning temperatures this time of year. Mostly cloudy skies have kept temperatures mild to start, but we’ll see clearing by the afternoon.
What’s shaping up to be a fantastic start to the work week only keeps on keeping on. Highs Tuesday will be in the upper 50s with light winds out of the east then out of the north. Small chances for light mixed precipitation continue on and off for far northern and northeast Nebraska through the morning Tuesday and again Wednesday morning.
Speaking of Wednesday, that’s Valentine’s Day! We’ll enjoy another very warm day in the upper 50s before the first of a couple cold fronts sweep through. Winds will be slightly stronger at about 5-15 mph out of the southeast.
It’s the second cold front from a system that dives southeast through Nebraska late Thursday into Friday that would bring the chance for snow with it. Temperatures will be cold enough for all precipitation to fall as snow through this period. Most snow from recent long-range model trends show a bit more snow for north and northeast Nebraska possible.
As for Lincoln, long-range models generally show less than an inch of accumulation is possible. We love to consider what the short-range models are saying, too, so we’ll continue to get a better idea heading into the second half of the week for this snow.
For now, potential light snow and timing could affect the morning commute on Friday. Whatever we see, we warm right back up with a lot of sun over the weekend.
