Former Husker basketball player sues NU over ‘secret’ relationship with ex-coach
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A former Husker basketball player is suing the University of Nebraska, according to court documents filed Sunday.
In the lawsuit, Ashley Scoggin claims that former assistant coach Chuck Love “groomed” her into a “secret sexual relationship.”
In February 2022, Love was suspended with pay, and Scoggin was removed from the team days after the relationship was reported.
Love resigned a few months later.

Scoggin stated that the relationship began when Love asked her to go out for drinks. Love was married at the time.
The relationship later turned sexual and made Scoggin feel “confused” and “trapped,” the lawsuit says.
Scoggin said she was afraid to report Love to head coach Amy Williams for fear of retaliation.
Love and Williams had coached together for six seasons at Nebraska.
Scoggin says Williams and Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts “failed to promulgate adequate training, rules, and regulations prohibiting coaches from sexual relationships with student-athletes.”
“WILLIAMS’ and ALBERTS’ affirmative acts and failures were the moving force for and/or a direct causal link to and/or proximately caused the pattern of sexual harassment suffered by ASHLEY, and were so extreme and egregious as to shock the conscience,” the lawsuit says.
Scoggin is seeking compensatory damages for her “mental pain and suffering.” She also seeks punitive damages, according to the lawsuit.
A university spokesperson released a statement on the lawsuit:
“The University was made aware of the lawsuit this morning. While the University does not comment on the specifics of pending litigation, it does not agree with the allegations contained in the complaint and intends to vigorously defend this matter.”
