Lincoln Southeast High School students turn old plastics into new picnic table

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Woodworking students at Lincoln Southeast High School used old plastics to make something new.

The students made a picnic table on Thursday with plastic lumber, which is made from hard-to-recycle plastics.

First Star Recycling in Omaha donated the lumber as part of a partnership with Lincoln Public Schools.

Sam Folmer, a senior, said it wasn’t that much different from working with regular wood.

“I think it’s a good idea to reuse the plastic that we waste,” he said.

The table will eventually be given to an LPS school.
