Tuesday’s floor meeting in the legislature brought another day of heated debate between senators.

“Your sex life, your sex life is that important to you? That defines who you are? Get a life,” Senator Mike Groene said.

It happened as Senator Groene of North Platte went after Senator Patty Pansing–Brooks of Lincoln as the legislature discussed an abortion related bill.

“Shut up. Anyways, it’s my mic. You call yourself a Christian, amen.” Sen. Goene continued.

After Groene took a seat, Sen. Pansing-Brooks’ office says he raised his middle finger to her.

On Wednesday Sen. Groene agreed to talk with Channel 8 but when a reporter arrived, he refused to be on camera and began a rant where he used profanity to discuss the situation.

Sen. Pansing-Brooks said she didn’t want to do an interview as she would rather the back-and-forth to end.

This isn’t the first altercation on the legislative floor since it re–opened on Monday.

In fact, the very first day back, Senator Ernie Chambers speaking out in regards to a flyer that was sent out supporting Senator Julie Slama’s re–election. The flyer linked Chambers to Slama’s opponent and said she sides with Lincoln liberals, atheists and radical extremists..

Sen. Chambers said it was racist.

“I only know what is on this notorious, vicious, racist, stupid, ignorant flyer is what I read in the newspaper,” Sen. Chambers said on the floor.

Senator Slama said Chambers went even further.

“He said ‘she was given favors because favors of a fleshy nature were expected in return. Senator Chambers, how dare you talk to a woman like that,” Sen. Slama said on the floor.

Governor Pete Ricketts getting involved releasing a statement saying, “I condemn Ernie’s sexist slurs against women and his disgraceful remarks towards law enforcement.”

Sp far, there’s been no statement from the Governor on Senator Groene’s outburst from Tuesday.
