LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Bike Kitchen is moving to a new home to increase its pedal power.

The nonprofit, currently at First and Garfield streets, is moving to the former Municipal Pool Building near 21st and M streets.

The Lincoln Bike Kitchen provides free refurbished bikes to the community and organizations like Lincoln Public Schools and CenterPointe.

Ingrid Kirst, the nonprofit’s interim executive director, said the new 2,700-square-foot facility will hold more donations and volunteers.

“It’s perfect,” Kirst said. “It’s centrally located. It’s right on a bike path. It’s right on bus lines and gives us more space.”

The nonprofit plans to move into the new building this summer.

Kirst said the organization gave away over 1,300 bikes to kids and adults last year.
