Wanted man caught with meth, gun after chase in Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A wanted man tried evading arrest Wednesday night in a stolen vehicle in Lincoln, police say.

Around 10:20 p.m., an officer saw a Pontiac Grand Prix pull into a gas station near 27th and O streets.

The officer recognized the passenger, 35-year-old Jared Mutchie, who was wanted on a felony arrest warrant, police said.

Mutchie quickly moved into the driver’s seat and left the parking lot.

The officer was unable to stop the vehicle.

Mutchie went east until he crashed into a retaining wall at 44th and O streets, according to police.

He got out of the vehicle and tried running away, but officers caught up and took him into custody.

Officers found a .22 caliber handgun, 1.5 grams of cocaine and 4.5 grams of meth, police said.

The Pontiac was also reported stolen near 48th and Superior streets on Feb. 24.

Mutchie was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.
