LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Airport Authority is keeping its leadership in place despite the Red Way debacle.

On Thursday, Executive Director David Haring unanimously passed a vote of confidence by the board.

A Lancaster County commissioner had asked for Haring’s resignation after the audit of Red Way.

The airline received $3 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds.

It ceased operations three months after its first flight, leaving many people waiting months for ticket refunds.

The federal funding was approved by the Lancaster County Board and the Lincoln City Council.

“This mistake was not on David’s shoulders,” said Laurie Fraser, a Lincoln resident who spoke at the meeting. “There were a lot of people to be held accountable in the risk that we took with Red Way.”

Every speaker was in favor of keeping Haring.

Tim Kirkpatrick said there have been many airlines that have ceased operations in Lincoln.

“Now we got another one that didn’t last, but to put that on him, I don’t think is right,” he said.

John Olsson, the chairman of the airport authority, said the airport was being creative with Red Way.

He said that’s necessary because Lincoln is a “funky market.”

Olsson hopes that the vote puts an end to the Red Way controversy and said the board is focused on moving forward.
