Sunny though haze lingers from Canadian wildfires on Tuesday
Canadian wildfire smoke originating from British Columbia and Alberta continues to linger Tuesday morning. The sun returns in full force today, but the sun will be accompanied by continued haze much of the day.
Most of the smoke will hang about in eastern Nebraska with the worst of it through the morning, improving especially by Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile in western Nebraska, some storms will be firing up across the Sandhills. We’ll be watching for a couple of storms that may be on the stronger side with some higher wind gusts and small hail possible.
A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk is in place for the western half of the state for these storms rolling in. Toward Cherry County, there is a small risk for a brief tornado as it’ll be worth watching the storms in northwest Nebraska for some rotation initially. These storms will lose steam as they move into drier air in eastern Nebraska.
More scattered showers and thunderstorms will then be possible on Wednesday in eastern Nebraska during the afternoon and evening. This round will be riding along a cold front sweeping through from west to east.
Like Tuesday, a Marginal risk will be in place for eastern Nebraska with the primary threats being damaging wind up to 60 mph and quarter sized hail.
Temperatures only slightly cool by Wednesday, before we crank up the heat into the 80s and upper 80s by the weekend.
Chances for any meaningful precipitation will be small after Wednesday into the weekend.
