Lincoln smoke shop plans to start selling JUUL products after FDA reverses ban
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A local dispensary plans to start carrying JUUL products after the Food & Drug Administration reversed its ban.
The FDA banned JUUL e-cigarettes in 2022 because of public health concerns.
Two years later, the administration changed course.
Some of the controversy stemmed from underage consumers and the increasing popularity of JUUL products.
Thomas Burdette, the vice president of High Hopes Dispensary in Lincoln, said those concerns don’t make much sense.
“This industry isn’t bad,” Burdette said. “It’s like alcohol, like cigarettes. There’s always health concerns, but at the end of the day, it’s people making their decisions. So having the FDA revise that ban allows individuals, consumers, to go back and make choices for themselves.”
JUUL products were still sold in many places while the company appealed the FDA’s ban.
High Hopes hasn’t been selling JUUL e-cigarettes because of the disagreement.
Burdette said when they were sold, they were extremely popular.
However, other brands are rising the ranks.
“Once Juul was banned, everybody started switching over to different disposables,” Burdette said. “I think a lot of people will go back because they do like what JUUL offered.”
High Hopes plans to start selling the e-cigarette now that the ban has been lifted.
“Hopefully, they keep their quality up and people go back to what they liked two years ago,” Burdette said.
