Hotter days on the horizon heading into this weekend
Storms Wednesday evening were able to produce some hail and wind across southeast Nebraska, in and around the Capital City, too. Some reports of gusts around 50-60 mph came in just to the west near Waco and Grafton. Hail was up to half dollar size (1.25″) in Exeter.
With recent rain and cooling temperatures Thursday morning, some fog will be possible before clearing out for tons of sun later on.
Highs will be slightly cooler and near normal as they top out around the upper 80s. Normal highs at this time of the year are now right at 90°.
Storms Thursday evening and night will remain off to the west, with a Marginal risk highlighting most of the Panhandle and southwest Nebraska. A couple of severe storms could bring up to 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail.
Much hotter days are on the horizon looking at this weekend and early next week. As humidity rises, heat index each day especially Saturday through Monday will be around 100-110° each afternoon.
Already we’re starting to see some heat alerts issued in Nebraska for this time period. As of Thursday morning, parts of southwest Nebraska under an Excessive Heat Watch from Friday afternoon through Monday evening. This watch is for the extended period of dangerously hot conditions expected.
We could see more heat alerts as we get closer to the weekend. Some relief looks to come by the middle of next week.
